Landform

Glacially scoured pink granite meeting the Atlantic. Rounded mountains, cobble beaches, and the first sunrise in the United States for much of the year.

Field note

Cadillac Mountain is a bald granite dome. The shore is a jumble of wave-smoothed cobbles. Spruce and pitch pine hold the thinner soils. Autumn and winter storms are the park’s true weather.
