Landform
More than five hundred tufa spires on a dry Pleistocene lakebed. Calcium towers in a chemical desert.
Field note
The pinnacles are tufa, the same chemistry as Mono Lake. Searles was a pluvial lake. The road is washboard. At last light the towers look like a city that forgot its people.
