Aztec sandstone outcrops — the Fire Wave, Pink Canyon, Mouse’s Tank — striped and folded like poured silk, an hour from Las Vegas and a world away.
Field note
The Fire Wave is a few acres of cross-bedded dune sandstone. Petroglyphs sit on desert varnish. Midday is blinding; late light turns the ridges candy-striped.
