Landform
A ten-mile erosional canyon cut into the shield of Kauaʻi. Red weathered basalt, hanging valleys, and a river that still works the floor.
Field note
Waimea means reddish water. Lookouts along the canyon road stack ridge after red ridge. On wet days the far wall vanishes; on clear ones you can see the ocean beyond the mouth.
