Cross-bedded Navajo sandstone melted into a white, pink, and rust swirl. A remote pocket of the Paria Plateau, reached by deep sand.
Field note
Harder to reach than The Wave, and without the lottery. The rock is a brain-coral of white sandstone over red. Dawn is the hour the swirls take color.
White Pocket is a remote swirl of cross-bedded Navajo sandstone on the Arizona Paria Plateau — white, pink, and rust rock that looks poured and then frozen. It sits apart from The Wave’s Coyote Buttes North bowl, reached by deep sand rather than a lottery trail.
