Bluebonnets take the foreground in spring. White-tailed deer use this same grass — photographed here, not borrowed from another county. The Attwater’s prairie-chicken is why the refuge exists; do not expect a guaranteed sighting. This is coastal prairie, not a ranch hayfield.
