Fig. 1Boardwalk and travertine water at Cascade Springs
Landform
Travertine terraces and artesian pools on the Timpanogos side of the Alpine Loop — a day-use boardwalk, not Emerald Lake and not Timpanogos Cave.
Field note
The Forest Service records more than seven million gallons a day moving over travertine into pools. A short paved and boardwalk path, some of it wheelchair accessible, runs the springs. Hours are 6 a.m. to dusk. No swimming, wading, fishing, or picnicking at the water, and no camping — day use only, inside the American Fork fee area. A forest or America the Beautiful pass covers the lot; the Forest Service posts $10 for three days, $20 for seven, and $60 for the season. Utah 92, the Alpine Loop, is a UDOT seasonal road, typically shut from November into late spring. The Midway approach is Cascade Springs Drive. This plate is Cascade Springs, not Emerald Lake and not the Timpanogos cirque.
