Field note

Ice Lake sits near 12,250 feet in the Ice Lake Basin of San Juan National Forest, west of Silverton. The walk climbs from South Mineral Creek. Island Lake is the neighbor tarn in the same basin. Maroon Bells and Chicago Basin keep their own Colorado plates. This plate is Ice Lake, not a Fourteener summit list and not Telluride.
