Field note
The maples are not lost; they are leftover. Clear pools hold limestone and leaf. Vanderpool is the nearest town. Late October is the week the canyon turns. This plate is Lost Maples State Natural Area, not McKittrick in the Guadalupes and not a Hill Country ranch.
