Mendenhall Glacier
A lake-terminating glacier in the Tongass, with Nugget Falls beside the ice, a short drive from Juneau.
Mendenhall Glacier is Tongass National Forest ice, managed by the U.S. Forest Service, about 12 miles from downtown Juneau. The glacier calves into Mendenhall Lake, and Nugget Falls drops beside the face. Ice caves come and go as the glacier thins; do not treat a cave as permanent. The Tongass plate is the rainforest. This plate is the ice.
