A broad salt flat where selenite crystals grow, on a refuge the birds also use.
Field note
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service manages Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge. The salt flat covers on the order of 11,000 acres, and the public may dig selenite crystals in a marked area during the published dig. Migratory birds use the flats and the reservoir. This is Oklahoma salt, not Bonneville.
