Landform
Pineywoods at a biological crossroads — pine, hardwood, and bald-cypress slough, tea-dark water, and a fall rust that Caddo does not own.
Field note
Big Thicket is woods that remember swamp. Turkey Creek and the Beaumont Unit hold bald cypress in black water; autumn needles go rust. Beaumont and Woodville are the towns. This plate is Big Thicket National Preserve, not Caddo Lake and not a dirt-road green.
Big Thicket is Pineywoods that still keep swamp: bald cypress in tea-dark water, autumn rust, a biological crossroads. Beaumont and Woodville are near. This plate is the national preserve, not Caddo Lake and not a roadside thicket.
