The first national forest in the East assembled from purchased land. Hardwood coves, granite domes, and the birthplace of American forestry.
Looking Glass Rock is a granite whaleback rising from the hardwoods. Upper Creek and a hundred other falls cut the Blue Ridge. The Cradle of Forestry still sits on the old Vanderbilt tract.
