Undeveloped Outer Banks barrier islands, a diamond-patterned lighthouse, and the horses of Shackleford Banks. Ferry only.
Field note
The National Park Service administers Cape Lookout National Seashore: North Core Banks, South Core Banks, and Shackleford Banks. The lighthouse wears a diamond daymark. Shackleford Banks holds a herd of wild horses. The islands are reached by ferry. There is no bridge and no paved road the length of the banks.
