Pink, orange, and purple gullies cut into soft Coastal Plain sediment after 19th-century farming. Georgia State Parks calls it the Little Grand Canyon.
Field note
Georgia State Parks holds Providence Canyon. The gullies — pink, orange, white, and purple — cut into the Clayton and other soft formations after 19th-century farming stripped the cover. They are young canyons, not a river gorge of the Colorado kind. Tallulah Gorge is the hard-rock canyon in the north of the state.
