Grass-stabilized dunes and shallow lakes in the Nebraska Sandhills, the largest dune field in the Western Hemisphere.
Field note
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service manages Valentine National Wildlife Refuge in the Nebraska Sandhills. The Sandhills are grass-covered dunes, the largest dune field in the Western Hemisphere, and the refuge holds shallow lakes and marsh in the swales. Toadstool Geologic Park is the clay badlands in the northwest of the state, not this grass.
