Field note

Wind Cave became a national park in 1903, the first cave the United States set aside that way. The National Park Service notes the boxwork here as the finest known. Mixed-grass prairie and bison occupy the ground above. The Black Hills plate is the granite and the towns; this plate is the cave and the grass.
